Southton Smallholding
The Smallholding takes its name from the 'Southton of Blackruthven'
(Blackruthven Farm) and extends the healing work of the Bield by providing therapeutic work for a group of adults with learning disabilities. We rely heavily on an excellent team of volunteers.
The Smallholding seeks, through therapeutic work, to create a more inclusive community. It also aims to build up the self confidence of people who normally endure long term unemployment and who may feel undervalued.

The manager, George Bosworth and Horticulturist team leader, Norma Forbes work with 9 team members and 10 volunteers who come from Perth and the surrounding country on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, looking after hens, sheep (Rosemary & Peppermint), Kune Kune pigs ‘Bubble & Squeak’, ‘Bandit’ the goat; ‘Clyde and Garcia’ the Alpacas and 6 geese, as well as 2 poly tunnels and a large vegetable garden.
The Smallholding operates 4 days a week. Although they rely on charitable support, the sale of organic vegetable boxes free range eggs, herbs and other produce raises some of the funds necessary to pay expenses to team members. Visitors to the Bield are always welcome to visit the Smallholding.
