Vacancy: Chaplain

for The Bield Retreat Centre (Perth)

We are seeking a chaplain with a lightness of spirit and depth of Christian leadership, a lover of creativity, nature and the arts

The Bield

The Bield was set up in 1998 to be a Centre for Christian spirituality, retreat and healing in the widest sense of the word. The founders, Marianne and Robin Anker-Petersen are retiring and the Board of Directors are looking for a Chaplain, an ordained person who can work hand in hand with the Executive Officer and take spiritual leadership of the Bield. The Bield is steeped in the beautiful nature of the surrounding estate and over the decades has offered thousands of guests a spirit, body, mind, approach to life and faith rooted in Christ. The art space and facilitator contribute much to many guests’ retreat experience. Southton Smallholding, a part of the community, offers therapeutic horticultural employment within the wider local community.

The Chaplain

We are seeking a mature and prayerful ordained Christian leader with experience of retreat ministry and spiritual direction. The ideal candidate will have a strong appreciation of the importance of the natural environment of The Bield in the process of healing and restoration. The Chaplain will head up and line manage the pastoral team, and those responsible for the  ministry of hospitality (bookings and housekeeping team leaders), take the lead on the prayer and worship life of the community and the welcome and spiritual care offered to guests and staff. The Chaplain will work collaboratively with the pastoral team to develop and deliver the annual retreat programme. The Chaplain will work closely with the Executive Officer (responsible for the business management and practical side of the work). Together with the strong and stable staff team they will maintain and develop the well-established ministry of the Bield. This will include responding to the changing needs of society, and spearheading the outreach into new guest communities.
